  1. always always go through with what you say.

I hate seeing parents say something like "if you do that again you are going to bed"  they say it 6  times then finally their child naturally just gets bored with doing whatever it was you didnt like so they stop.  parent wonders why their child didnt listen the first time...

My son knows if mommy says no or stop he has one warning then the consequences period.  he doesnt have to guess He learns what ok and whats not and he is sure of what will happen if he makes a certain choice.

time out works only if you do it and hold the child to it.

1 minute for every year the child is old.   that does not get longer depending on what it was they did then they tend to forget why they were on timeout in the first place and just think mom is being mean.  i am not against a swat on the butt if it is a safety concern that i feel i have to get their attention right away.

  2. ok i will probly upset poeple now but i will smack my son on the hand if its that or run into the road or somthing realy dangoras is that so bad my mum did it to me and im fine i no right from wrong i respect my elders say please and thank you and i got a smack on the bum or fatty bit if my back leg  tell me does a naughty step work when they run to the road for the first time come hear dirling and sit on the step dont cut it with me sorry u must not do that   mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

well a smacked bum worked for many of us in sure

and befor anyone  starts to rant i dont  like agre with violance abuse i just want to instill wrigh form wrong  and keep my kids safe

  3. "Natural Consequences" ... try to set up rules that enforce themselves with a minimum of effort from you, using the child's  needs.

    Examples:

If we fought at the table, we had to leave the table immediately.  We could come back for the next meal, of course. It didn't matter who started it, all participants left.

We had no bedtime ... we had to get up and be ready for school, or do chores, so staying up late didn't happen often.

If we were going to the movies and weren't ready, the car left without us. If you weren't ready for the school bus, you got shoved onto the bus in your jammies with your clothes in a bag.

The last thing before dinner was a toy roundup. If we left toys or clothes scattered around the house at night, they vanished and might show up again later.
