Discount on changing Xbox Live Gamertag, Steam gets Limbo
It is amazing how two small and unrelated stories will have such a huge impact on the world of gaming as both Xbox 360 users and PC users get some pretty sweet deals on their platforms this week.
Starting off with the news that will make the creatively restless demographic of Xbox gamers, who are still trying to find their identity, both easier and more affordable.
Unlike with Sony’s PlayStation, gamers on Xbox Live do have the option of changing their online ID, though instead of calling it that, the marketing department at Microsoft decided to put in some effort and came up with the much cooler ‘Gamertag’. Take notes
Sony, PSN ID has its own charm, but Gamertag sounds much cooler.
The feature is not free though and requires players to purchase their new Gamertag, which can cost over 700 Microsoft Points. This week however, Microsoft has decided to make changing one’s Gamertag more affordable by allowing gamers a 30-percent discount
to avail the feature.
The offer is only for Gold members and will bring the cost of changing one’s Gamertag down to 560 Microsoft Points, or £4.80 if one wishes to talk in terms of real money.
It gives the players an opportunity to freshen things up and make their old, boring Gamertags new and current. Maybe Mr. ‘Torres9YNWA’ would take this chance and change things up to ‘Suarez7’ and so on and feel 30% less hurt about it.
According to Microsoft, the previous 12 months saw a major surge in the amount of new Xbox Live accounts which were opened and this could, again, help out the less creative of the bunch with a second chance to come up with a ‘cooler’ tag.
The best part about all this is that the gamers’ friend lists will be updated automatically with any change.
Moving on from Gamertags, a game which made a name for itself on the Xbox 360, before moving on to other consoles, is Limbo and the fact that the uniquely styled game is on Steam.
The equivalent of the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace, Steam is an online digital distribution platform, owned and run by publishing powerhouse Valve. A PC only platform, Steam does have a bit of a monopoly in the market, though with Electronic
Arts launching its own platform Origin, that could change.
Limbo is now available for PC gamers to download and the black and grey platformer is priced at around $9.99. The price is justified by the developer announcing that the game will run on the PC smoother than any other console.
Promises from developers aside, gamers can try the award winning game out for themselves.
