My mom has a Discover card, and I am an authorized user on it. I was just curious that if this will effect my credit score, and history. Cause she is always maxing it out, and I don't want this to hurt me. Anybody know?

  1. Credit bureaus are phasing out using authorized user accounts in your credit score calculation.  It shouldn't really affect your score at all.

  2. You are not responsible for the account balance or any history on the account if you are an Authorized Buyer. As someone else mentioned, you are only responsible if the account was opened as a joint account between the 2 of you. If that wasn't the case, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about :)

To be helpful, you can let your mom know that Discover Card offers email alerts that can tell her if the balance is reaching close to her credit line so she can control her spending.

  3. It should not be, because your not the card holder, your just an authorized user. I would call Discover and find out for sure. I 'm also a Discover card holder. 1800-347-2683
