  1. I think the fate of all dialects is to vanish with the passing of time, unfortunately. My dad speaks " Vlahika " a dialect of latin origin and not greek which is spoken in some parts of Greece. But none of his children speak it today. The same goes for the majority of people I know, whose parents speak some kind of dialect. They never learned it, so sometime in the future the dialect will be forgotten. Sad but true.

  5. Tsakonika is a live Greek Dialect coming from the ancient Greece and especially from the Doric dialects. There are people speaking tsakonika now days in some areas of Arcadia around the villages of Astros, Leonidio  and Agios Kosmas in the territory of Kynouria.

  6. Indeed it's very surprising that even today there are people who speak ..."ancient" dialects. I knew about this dialect because l have studied about Greek dialects. I am very proud that even me l speak a kind of ancient Greek. If you like to learn more about ancient dialects read about the "Αρκαδοκυπριακά",

    (Κυπριακή Διάλεκτος - Cypriot Dialect)

The beginning of Greek language was the "πρώιμη  ÃƒÂŽÃ‚µÃŽÂ»ÃŽÂ»ÃŽÂ·ÃŽÂ½ÃŽÂ¹ÃŽÂºÃŽÂ®" or "πρωτοελληνική" l think in english is called proto hellenic which goes back in the 21st century B.C.

  7. Tsakonika is a dialect related to the language of the Ancient Dorians of the Peloponnese.

  8. My grandfather has told me that his mother (my great-grandmother) spoke Τσακώνικα! But my grandfather doesn't speak it, he says he has forgotten it.
