I don't know much about trends in security, but maybe what I'll say about LACK of security speaks indirectly about hotel security (and maybe about the increased need to do background checks with employees).  Many, including me, will recommend that hotel guests keep and later destroy their room key cards.  These cards hold personal information.  Hotel employees are supposed to erase the information on the cards if guests return them, or if a card is found in the room after checkout.  That doesn't always happen, and the end result is that people have had their credit card numbers or identities stolen by unsavory types who work behind the desk.  Uh, just noticed the response above me.  Why are you asking this question, anyway?
