it's the tax structure. when a society is taxed, it produces less. europe is heavily taxed on their fuel , which drives the cost of everything else up (all product is produced and moved with fuel)

the USA has become "tax happy", our production is going down. chicago is now the most heavily taxed city in the USA at 11.5% sales tax. businesses and factories are fleeing in record rates. so the city raises real estate taxes to make up for the lack of business taxes, it drives the citizens from their homes, so they raise the taxes higher.

illinois is the most corrupt/tax heavy state in the nation, second only by california. look at states that are thriving, the lowest taxed states, florida and nevada, little or no taxes and their populations are growing exponentially!
