  2. The advantage is the global corps will be able to continue to control & profit from providing transport fuel.

    It is unlikely that people will be allowed to home-brew hydrogen in their basements & garages, the reason given will be it's flamable/explosive nature in confined spaces.

    Another advantage is that subsidies can be given for research

    and car makers are not required by CARB to provide zero emmission vehicles if they are doing fuel-cell research, so they can recall & crush all the ev1s

  3. You  leave out of the question any mention of the assumed supply system... is the hydrogen coming from CNG, from water hydrolysis, from wood or coal gas?

    Any of those could be providing the hydrogen, So a car could be built to run on hydrogen and then figure out its supply structure separately.

    Now the nature of the source would change the advantages. Wood or coal gas would be OK if you want to get away from heavily travel ed routes. they might require an engineering degree to operate them.

    CNG or LNG would allow a reasonable range with a tank of moderate size. Used in fuel cells, the hydrogen would get more miles than we could get from the same amount of fuel in an internal combustion engine.

    As a new vehicle in mass production these fuelling options would cost much the same as an internal combustion engine of three times the power. By restricting power we should hope to discourage their use on high speed highways.

    They can run on arctic methane deposits.

    If the vehicle is being fuel ed with high pressure hydrogen at closely spaced fuelling stations we would like to avoid leaving town because range may be low and infrastructure hard to find for a long time. Because of the high pressure we would have to ensure the drivers will avoid collision and not park indoors.

    We would expect suppliers to offer hydrogen at very low prices to make it viable. After all they would be making the hydrogen from excess electrical power.  The hydrogen can even be used by the supplier to feed energy back into the grid when needed.

    All of these systems could be used to provide electric power for home or campsite, clean quiet electricity that costs only the cost of the fuel.

    However, I would dearly hope that welding with hydrogen would be limited to non-ferous metals.

    Steel contains carbon which in contact with hydrogen at high temperature will change to  an oil (hydrocarbon) that will severely weaken the weld.

    For steels that are stronger, high carbon steel we make it a point of using 'low hydrogen' welding rods and avoid welding during very humid weather just to avoid hydrogen-carbon interaction.

    Hydrogen will be derived from oil, distributed by oil corporations, leak, and is very explosive.

I have always said and possed questions on here about hydrogen, many people harp on about seting up infrastructures to meet the demand which is an ignorant view through lack of understanding, I have made both a generator and vehicle run on hydrogen, hydrogen that is made in situ ie in the boot of the vehicle. Many say what about if the vehicle has an accident my answer is build a stronger fuel cell suitable for its use.

    Yes it is voitile however with todays technology which is far advanced from the hindenburg episode which was exagerated through the lead paint used, it can now be controlled and delivered safely.

    Bring on hydrogen i say....................... Maybe if politicians were different we would all be using it by now. Ow also my friend has welded using the gas too.... to the answer above oil has nothing to do with it its made through a smal charge in water between plates the gas seperates then its burnt and converts back to water amazing in my opinion.
