  1. You have the legislative branch whose primary duties are chasing prostitutes, drinking expensive scotch, and writing convoluted laws that nobody really every understands.  Mostly they make long pompous speeches and take junkets to inspect Thai hookers.

Then there is the executive branch.  Against all the wisdom of our founders, about 99 percent of federal power is now in the executive branch.  The president mostly starts wars.  Some start small wars like Grenada, others start big wars like Vietnam.  Some just join existing wars.  And they spend some time s******g up the economy.

The third branch is the judiciary, which are the courts including the supreme court.  Most justices on the supreme court are senile old fools who never seem to make the right decision.  Their basic function is to get in the way and make it difficult to get anything done.  Which given the mischief making of the other two branches probably is a good thing.

Anyway that's the government, at least what they tell you in your government controlled schools.

Here's the real scoop.  There are two political powers who collude and compete to run the country.  Most of the key decisions are made within the party ranks by officials who are not elected.  The Democrats and the Republicans may not be in the constitution, but they are in government.

Speaking of the constitution.  Nobody in Washington D.C. is even vaguely aware of that document.  You will note that the Statue of Liberty was put in New York and not Washington D.C.  That gives you an idea of the relative weight given to liberty in their decision making.

Most lawmaking is done through an intricate bidding process where lobbyists representing corporations, foreign governments (not always our friends), labor unions, political factions, wealthy individuals, trade groups, and others actually purchase the decision making of our country.

People think they choose politicians when they vote.  That isn't the case at all.  We are passive players for the most part we just show up and select some name off a sheet of paper.  The real player is the politician, they engage in vote farming, each in a contest to harvest the most votes.  The winner is the one who told the best set of lies.

Then you have the bureaucracy.  Our elected officials are little more than keepers of this enormous herd of government agencies.   Bureaucracies are all about rules, they love rules, they live to think up and enforce rules.  Think of a pack of highly neurotic obsessive compulsive elephants, and that is our government.

The real branches of the government are.

1 - Back office political hacks

2 - The favors market where lawmakers are bought and sold

3 - Highly skilled conscience impaired liars

    4 - The herd of self-possessed bureaucracies.

  2. judicial, executive, and legislative. i think.

  3. Systems of checks and balances are instituted so no one branch can have absolute power.

  4. Quite a few changes have taken place in past few decades.

Today, the Judicial Branch makes the laws, Congress investigates things, and the Executive Branch is blamed for everything ranging from the weather to the price of tea in China.
