  1. Teachers should not be thinking beyound time out - we do that naturally anyway when dealing with children.  As to building an encouraging classroom any teacher who is not doing that isn't being a teacher.  However, what a teacher is suppose to be creating is a classroom that is encouraging for learning - and sometime educational institutions seem to forget that through their educational theories they aren't encouraging future teachers to do that.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. Yes there should be time out for the teachers. It helps them to plan their lessons effectively.

  3. I think that most of the time timout doesn't work. Believe me you attract more bees with honey than you do vinegar. Vinegar= Time Out and Honey= Redirection. I have worked in the Preschool setting for years and I have found that time out does work for those that you have exhausted every other avenue and it hasn't worked. I always used it as the last resort. Sometimes they just need to be removed completely from the situation and have time to mull their own behavior over until they can calm down.

Most of the time you can figure out what is causing the problem in the first place and take care of it, but on ocassion there is a problem that just can't be solved by you and you have to resort to the Time out.

  4. I am a teacher, and sometimes time out is necessary.
