During my last semester I befriended a classmate. But what got me was that she has something that makes her entire body shake uncontrollably. I was concerned about her and am glad to be her friend, yet I'm wondering if there's a certain disease or a certain medication that makes the body shake uncontrollably.

Thanks.

  1. Epilepsy is the most common problem that causes this, but there are a few other mental and physical problems that can possibly cause this as well, as well as Parkinson's Disease.

  2. well uncontrollable shaking can have a variety of reasons:

    1. shivering due to cold ... person is concious

    2. epileptic attacks ... may or may not be concious

    3. seizures due to metabolic disturbances like hypoglycemia or electrolyte ( salt ) disturbances in the body

    4. Parkinson's disease ... but that usually occurs in old age or after considerable amount of head trauma.

its best to see a doctor for such symptoms as shaking could be due to many different reasons. Best to get it diagnosed and treated if possible.

  3. If you are a real friend I would  think that by now you would have asked her if there is a medical condition or what.  It would not make any difference in your friendship but I would think she would be close enought to you to tell you if you asked.

Yes there are meds and there are conditions

Terets sydrome can cause loud outburtds and uncontrollable twitches.

    others like parkensons causes shaking.

  4. Maybe Parkinson's like Michael J Fox.

  5. One thing I know for sure is low levels of sugar. Is she a diabetic? If so her sugar medicines need checked into, especially Glucose. She may have a nerve problem or liver problems like cirrhosis. The liver causes cold sensations that makes you shake like your are cold. There are so many things. Medications do also. Which ones, I don't really remember, but they are out there. I wish I could tell you more. Has she seen a Doctor to see what the problem is or have you even asked her. She may know the answer herself but is unwilling to talk about it. That's where care and understanding and the right approach to her about it counts. Let her know you are concerned and was wondering if she would like to talk about it with you. Gain her trust and hold her hand when you ask her. Good luck to you sir.
