  1. They are already dead. You won't have to see any live animals and then have them be killed. However, if you are against disecting an animal that was raised in a lab for that purpose then you don't have to. You can go to school that day and simply not do it. Your teacher cannot mark you down. Instead, present an alternative like a virtual disection online, or simply doing a research project or watching while another group does it. I personally found it difficult, but managed to detach myself emotionally from it. It was a good learning experience. But no one can force you to do it.

  2. A teaching coop course (biology / physiology) in our area includes dissecting a cat and watching an autopsy on a human at a nearby university.

Homeschoolers... no science... no labs... right!

Do you know what kind of animal is to be dissected?  It is often a baby pig because they are similar in anatomy to a human.

Talk to your teacher (through your parents if you need) to confirm what i_come_from says... I imagine she is right but it would be good to check and also to let your teacher / school know in advance.

  3. There are free websites for virtual dissections.

That may help you to prepare for what you will see in the actual dissection.

  4. in our school we use ammonia when pinning it in the tray they only become unconscious but still their alive and breathing. its easy you just take of the skin and the other layers and see through its organs. not a problem
