Disgrunted Americans that say they would move to a new country.... ?

Question

I often hear people say that they would consider moving out of the US if their party loses (I, in fact, am one of them). I understand this line of thinking when coming from liberals - because most all other developed nations are more liberal and socialist leaning and therefore we (tree-huggin' crazy liberals) would arguably fit in better. But I am baffled when I hear Republicans & Conservatives make this assertation. What country are they planning to move to that they feel will be as (or more) conservative than the US? Most of the industrialized nations support g*y marriage or civil union, have decriminalized marijuana, pay higher taxes and have more social programs, and tend to be more secular.

Just curious.. I'm always startled when I hear a conservative/ republican make that comment. It seems contradictory to all their beliefs.

There are plenty of conservative countries in the world:

Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, North Korea, parts of Africa...um, did I say Saudi Arabia?

It's odd, considering that America is already a pretty conservative country compared to the rest of the world...also, considering that the American "conservative" generally ties in much more with nationalism, and valuing traditional American customs, as opposed to liberal ideas, which favor development and reform, it would be odd for conservative people to leave the country...I mean, are they hoping to find somewhere more traditionally American than America?

It's odd, although I will say that I've never actually heard that.

And for the record, I'd consider leaving the country regardless of which party wins.

I spent 16 years in the UAE (specifically Dubai), so I can say NOT Dubai, but I do recommend Saudi Arabia for American citizens seeking a highly conservative society.  I'd imagine they'd be thrilled, should suit them to a T.
