Disgruntled FED fans,do you remember Fed vs Nadal Wimbledon final 2?

I believe it was in the 4th and Rafa was winning and Fed had inexplicably lost his cool and was visibly hot and bothered. Rafa,at the worst possible moment FOR HIMSELF!!,called for a break because he was in pain. That gave Fed the breather he desperately needed. He pulled himself together and came back a new man. There was no nonsense of his not being able"to bring himself to hit winners against an injured opponent"(as I have read on posts here about the Hamburg final!) .

My point is that I don't recall any indignant Fed fans angry at Rafa for calling for a break or accusing him of faking it. Why? because Rafa's break benefited Fed immensely; (in my opinion it was the turning pt of the game. And Rafa never even mentioned it afterwards as an excuse for losing the match). Can't you all believe that these great athletes really do have to take breaks and sometimes the timing benefits them and sometimes it doesn't? Players of their calibre don't have to fake it!

  1. I'm a die-hard Federer fan, but I'm a Rafa fan too, but I also play tennis, so Rafa did what he had to do I'm not angry at him at all.Tennis is incredibly physical and mental and they do have to take breaks because it always helps in the long run. Breaks give you time to regroup and get yourself together, there absolutely necessary, some people are just upset because Federer lost, I mean I hated it too, but it's overand done, I'm ready to cheer him on at the French.

  2. You are so right. I wish people would stop calling rafa a faker.

  3. I don't think Nadal faked his leg problem, he was probably just worried about it, especially with the Frech Open next week. To be honest it probably didn't benefit Federer yesterday because it interrupted his flow of good form. Nadal is a true sportsman and would definately not cheat or use underhand tactics. I think it was genuine and lets face it, if both players are well Nadal is always going to beat Fed on clay, he has the mantal and physical edge.

  4. but thats how they want to play it...they have the right to do that and no matter what we say, thats how it goes....

  5. What I remember all too vividly about the 2007 Wimbledon Final is that Rafa had Federer on the ropes and as you stated, Rafa gave Federer an opening and Federer jumped all over it. I was absolutely crushed when Rafa lost that final, so much so that I was close to tears. Rafa and Federer are not gamers. There are players that use gamesmanship unfairly to try to change the rythym of a match. The worst offender was Guillermo Coria during the French Open Final against Gaston Gaudio. Coria's behavior bordered on blatant cheating and I couldn't have been more pleased that Coria lost because of how he conducted himself during that final.  Any Federer fan who believes that the #1 player in the world is going to lose a Masters Tournament Final because of a perfectly allowable injury timeout is not only deluded but also clueless as to the mental toughness it takes to become  and sustain the #1 ranking. There is no #1 player who would lose his focus because of an average length, with no particular fanfare, injury timeout.
