Dish soap in the washing machine?

I work at a preschool and we ran out of laundry soap... so a girl there put maybe a teaspoon of liquid dish soap in the washing machine.. reluctantly i am flat broke with no laundry detergent... can I use the dish soap without ruining my machine? I don't see how using just a teeny bit would harm it.. I mean will it eat away at the machine or will some other technical thing happen that will be really bad.... PS I already know that if I use a lot of dish soap it will make tons and tons of suds

  1. Wash them by hand to be safe, in the bath or sink.

  2. why don't you just wash select items in the sink instead of ruining your washer???

  3. You can safely use dish soap in a washing machine. It's a dishwasher you don't want to try that with. You'll have bubbles all over the kitchen.

  4. Hmm... I didn't know dishsoap was bad for your washer! I do it all the time when I run out. I haven't encountered a problem yet so go for it!

I agree - why not just wash in the sink to save some energy!
