This woman from Lebanon made this awesome meal for me, that looks very much like Tabbouleh, but she said they don't call it tabbouleh because it has chick peas and some other modifications. She said it's called something like "saffeh". I wanted to find a recipe online, but I can't get the spelling right, so I can't find anything.

Can anyone help me? Like i said, it's very much like tabbouleh, so it's got a lor of parsley, bulghur, chick peas that have soaked overnight and broken in half, lime, little bits of tomatoes and onions, probably garlic, etc.

Probably spelled something like saffi, safi, saffih, safih, safeh, saffeh, saffe...

Thank you for all your help!

  1. It might be salata hummus, here is a recipe...

400g (14oz) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained

1 hard boiled egg, chopped in quarters

3 heaped tablespoons flat leaf  parsley, finely chopped

    1 medium onion, thinly sliced

1 red pepper, cored, seeded and chopped

    ½ teaspoon of cumin seeds

    1 teaspoon dried thyme

    1 garlic clove, finely chopped

    3 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon olive oil, for frying

    1 teaspoon salt

    pinch of black pepper

    Directions:

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a medium frying pan, fry the onions and garlic on medium heat until slightly brown.

2 Next add the cumin seeds, thyme, red pepper  and stir for a couple of minutes.

3 Remove from heat and place in a medium bowl.

4 Add the lemon juice, salt, pepper, chickpeas, parsley and chopped egg and mix gently.

Here's another one... this sounds more like what you had spelled

    Salsouf (Bulgur and Chickpea Salad)

    A rustic Lebanese salad.

    1 cup bulgur (cracked wheat)

    A 1-pound can good-quality chickpeas, drained

    1 tablespoon dried mint

    Salt

    6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Soak the bulgur in plenty of cold water for ½-1 hour, then drain and squeeze the excess water out. Mix with the rest of the ingredients.

    Serves 6.
