Dishes proper to American custom? (Tradition, heritage...)?

Question

I was wondering, what dishes are proper of the American cuisine? Dishes belonging to Thanksgiving, to the South, to New England, to the countryside, to the big cities; dishes that represent the real spirit of the US traditions and customs? Please present to me as many as possible and as detailed as necessary. Thank you very much.

Here in Utah we love to cook outside, especially using Dutch Ovens.  Dutch Ovens are cast iron pots that were used for cooking by pioneers coming across the plains.  The hung them over the campfire and cooked everything from stews to bread in them.  We sometimes use ours on a fire but mostly we use charcoal to cook in it.  

We have one thing thats wonderful that I've never seen anywhere else and that's fry sauce.  It basically just catsup and mayo mixed together but it's the best thing ever to dip french fries in.  Try it, 1/4 cp catsup - 1/4 cp mayo - stir till well blended.  It's way better than catsup alone!  

Dutch Oven Chicken & Potatoes - serves 4

1 - 12" Dutch Oven (well-seasoned)

Whole chicken - 2 b*****s, 2 thighs, 2 legs, 2 wings

6 potatoes, unpeeled (I prefer unpeeled but you can peel them)

2 lrg sweet onions (Vidalia, Maui, Walla Walla or other sweet onion)

1 lb bacon, cut up (yeah, yeah it's a lot but mmmmmmm, good flavor)

1/3 cp water

2 Tbls lemon pepper Mrs Dash

Salt & Pepper to taste

1/2 cube butter - the real thing (NOT light margarine, it's watery)

1/2 lb whole button mushrooms (on the small side)

1/2 lb Cheddar/Jack cheese, grated

Cut up the bacon and fry it up till done.  Remove the bacon and bacon grease from the oven and set aside.    

Put the water in the bottom of the oven (or pan).  Arrange the chicken over the bottom in a single layer.  Sprinkle with 1 Tbls of Mrs Dash.  Place a layer of onion over the chicken.

Slice the potatoes and onions (not to thin, maybe 1/4" or so),  layer them in the oven with the salt, pepper and 1 Tbls of Mrs Dash so that the seasoning is mixed all thru.  Cut up the butter and put it on top.  Pour the bacon w/grease over all, put the lid on and bake at a med temp (about *325) for an hour.  (The lid should fit tightly so the steam stays in the pan.)

Stir in the mushrooms and cheese and cook another 20-30 min.  Stir well and serve. Could be topped w/additional cheese.

Independence Day [July 4th]: Fried chicken, potato salad or cole slaw, and watermelon

Most of these  as well as other customs immigrated from other countries over the past 300 years, only the 4th of July and Thanksgiving being American originals

New England - Clam chowder, lobster, boiled dinner, corned beef hash.

Countryside - beef, pork, simple baked goods.

Cities - Multiethnic cuisine - almost anything in the big cities.  Biggest immigrant groups are Italian, Mexican.
