Question:

Dishnow Dish Network pricing?

Does anybody know a rough estimate for the Dishnow Prepaid compatible STB and dish? Also, does anybody know if I can do the setup myself, or is the professional setup required?

I have cable currently, but my mother pays for it, and she is not willing to add another STB to the bill for HD (my HDTV has a QAM tuner, but I only get my locals, and that's not enough), I thought that wiring up a satellite connection would be a fun little project for me, and would be a way to get more HD stations

  1. Dish is very generous for NEW subscribers, but there is a 2 year commitment. But this includes free installation and several STB's.  So it's not worth trying to do it yourself.

Also - it's not free. The receiver only shows you the channels in the package you subscribe to.

In a few days (Aug 1) Dish will make some "TurboHD" packages for new subscribers and these are stations that are only in HD including your locals.  The prices start at about ... $29/month. But you want to get the 722 PVR (so you can pause/rewind/record things).  This adds some fee to pay for the guide.

Call Dish on Friday to ask about new subscriber packages and I suspect they will set you up nicely.

  2. why dont you do some research on fta. it will save you a bundle.need to know more, email  me.
