Dishonest Credit Company Practice?

Looking over my credit record.

I see that when my past due account became 7 years old, they sold it to a collection agency who now says the original date is 2007 and not 2001. In theory they can keep this on my record forever. WHat can I do?

  1. need to find out what the statute of limitations are in your state. the statute of limitations does not expire when your account is sold to a third party. talk to an attorney.


  2. Don't respond to them because if you do they will consider that as "reaffirming" your debt.  Even if they get you on the phone to ask you about it.
