Question:

Dishwasher door will not close?

I have a Frigidaire Gallery Dishwasher. The door was closed and the power in the house went out. The lights on the machine were blinking and I opened the door. Now it will not close. It seems the latch locked. I tried moving it with a s***w driver and no go. I also plugged and unplugged the system and still no go. Any ideas besides calling a repairman? I couldn't find any help in the Manual. Thank you!!

  1. Your latch is mechanical no series of button pushing is going to undo it.  You can try the coat hanger to free up the latch cam.  If that does not work you can access the latch by removing front door panel and console.  This is very easy to do with frigidaire d/w's.  First, cut the power to your d/w.  Then open your door to the d/w.  Starting at the bottom on the inside of the door remove the screws, one on the left and one on the right.  Repeat process for the next set of screws.  Now your door panel will come off.  Watch the size of screws that come out because they are different, that way it will be easier to reinstall panel.  Next remove the four s***w holding the control panel on.  Once those are removed you can drop the panel and see the door latch.  The door latch itself is has two screws holding it in place.  If you remove the latch, disconnect the wires and remember how they went on so that you can properly put them back on in the proper place.  Now you can see exactly what the problem is.  If you can fix it great.  If not just take your model number to a parts dealer and buy a new one.

  2. A technician will know how to do it with the right sequence of button pushing on the front panel. I doubt they will tell you the sequence so you may need them to come to your home and reset the whole electronics. Or you could try disassembling the front door to access the latch and manually force it back into position.

  3. SORRY,WITHOUT SEEING THE LOCKING MEC.ITS KINDA HARD TO DIAGNOS THE PROBLEM.YOU CAN CALL SEARS AND ASK THEM IF YOU COULD TALK TO A SVC.TECH.

THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD ABOUT DOING THAT W/O CHARGING. ARE THERE PLENTY OF CLEARANCE FOR THE DOOR TO CLOSE,DOES IT HAVE A HANDLE LATCH,OR A FLIP LATCH?WHEN YOU DO FIND THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEM,I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IT WAS,

  4. Hola mexicanadianguy:

I had a similar problem with my Bosch DW, and used a wire hanger to fabricate a door latch with which I could pull the latch open. You might also try http://www.repairclinic.com/ for other help.
