Question:

Dishwasher leaving brown scum on glasses?

I have purchased a dishlex dishwasher a couple of months ago and find that after every few weeks (I use it everyday) there starts to get a build up of brown scum on the glasses. I use Finish Dishwasher Cleaner Pro once a month which helps but I don't know where it is coming from and if I can prevent it. I could understand if it was a old machine but its only a couple of months old.

  1. Do you have a G/D unit in the kitchen sink if so the drain line might not be routed so to keep the dirty water from running down it.

  2. Something is amiss.  A brand new dishwasher should not being leaving filthy deposits behind if being used daily.  Check the bottom of the dishwasher for material being left behind and making stuff appear on your glasses.  I use simply Cascade and there isn't ANYTHING left behind but shine and maybe some water drops and mine is a MAYTAG, not the best of the bunch from what I read, and mine is second hand, but it leave NO RESIDUE of any kind.  Read the manual to see if there are any filters that may need changing or emptying.  Do you have well water?  Hard water?  Do you rinse things off before putting in the machine?  We always set the dishes in the sink with a quick rinse, whether doing them by hand or doing in the dishwasher, simply to wet whatever milk, cookie dust, or pudding off so it doesn't hardened into glue before getting washed.  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!

  3. Do you clean the filter regularly?  Look in your user manual for how to clean it.
