Dishwasher not heating water. Switched on yesterday. Later, it did not sound right so I opened

Switched on yesterday. Later, it did not sound right so I opened door. Dishwasher had no water in but pots were very hot. Fixed water problem this morning but now washer goes through it's cycle but water does not heat. I first thought element but I checked that out and found it to be O.K.
