Dishwasher power consumption?

Is this calculation right?

This website http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/your_home/appliances/index.cfm/mytopic=10040 says typical dishwasher power consumption is 1200-2400 watts.

So I'll assume mine is 2000 watts. If it's running for one hour, that's 2 kWh. My power company charges 6.5 cents/kWh, so that means it costs $0.15 cents to run the dishwasher?? That sounds way to low, but is it correct?

  1. try the following website

    http://www.ukpower.co.uk/running-costs-e...

this gives you a calculator for english energy consumption

  2. Sounds right. However this does neglect several costs:

    - The cost of water it uses

    - The cost to heat the water it uses

    - The cost of detergent

Your dishwasher doesnt use that much electricity. There's lots of moving water but it's all powered from your water supply and unless I'm mistaken, the water is pre-heated before entering the dishwasher.
