My outside dinnerware says it is not microwavable...am I to assume it's the same for the dishwasher?

  3. It depends on what your dinnerware is made out of. (Although usually if they take the time to mention it's not microwaveable, they would have taken the time to mention not to put it in the dishwasher if it couldn't handle it).

    Acrylic drinking glasses will probably not melt on the top rack, but it does extend their life (and prevents cloudiness) if you hand wash them.

    Melamine plates should be fine in the dishwasher. When in doubt, test just one of them.

  4. Yeah. If the dinnerware is not microwaveable (because of the whole melting thing) then it will not be dishwasher safe.  But if it's not microwaveable because it's metal, then that's a whole different ball game.
