Dishwasher smells a little?

Long story short... my dad unplugged my dishwasher to do other repairs. I never used it anyway. Other kind meaning people have put dishes in it and started it...only to have it steam a few cups of old stinky water on my dishes. We laugh it off and I take out the stinky dishes and wash them by hand. Now the water has been hooked back up and it still has an odor. Not overwhelming...I tried dumping some oxyclean in it and running it. I;ve ran it a few times empty. It's not so bad that the dishes smell afterwards...but it;s not as clean as i would like it to be either...any suggestions?

It happens, I use my dishwasher as a dryer, wash them by hand, but once a month I go and buy a whole bottle of Heinz vinegar, pour it all in there and run it.

Things You’ll Need:

Bleach

Vinegar

Tang

baking soda

Step1:

Run the rinse cycle only and put a cupful of vinegar, you can also mix the vinegar with baking soda. You might have to do this at least twice.

When the cycle is finished and the dried make sure to use a paper towel to make sure the dishwater is fully and properly dried. You can leave the door open for awhile.

Step2:

Also bleach works fine too. Again a cup full of bleach work wonder. Just run the rinse cycle only and put the bleach in. Make sure the dishwasher is properly dried out, because this is what is causing the smell, as the water settling at the bottom form a stench when the door is closed.

Step3:

Tang(astronaut drink mix) is another good product to use. Follow the steps above, and it should help your problems. Remember because there is no air going to the dishwater when kept locked up with water at the bottom of it will smell. So make sure the dishwasher is properly clean and dry. Open up door like daily to let fresh air in.
