Question:

Dishwasher wont fill with water...is it an easy fix or do I have to call someone?

My dishwasher has never worked in my house since I moved in not too long ago.

When I turn it on it just has a loud buzzing noise. I checked the float and that was normal.

I turned the k**b under the sink on the pipe leading to the dishwasher, but that didn't work either.

What could be the problem and is it a DIY project or do I need to call someone?

  1. We have the same problem!  :O

It could be a problem in the circuit board...or you could try what I found has worked for me...and I have to do this every time!...

--First, make sure the float is NOT stuck...like you have.

--Make sure you rinse your dishes very well before loading the washer...no food particles on them...that will clog the float up.

--Then, after loading it, fill a large cup/glass with tap water, and pour that into the bottom of your dishwasher, directly over the float... this basically "primes the pump"...since your washer is older...and they are really only designed to last about 10 years...you need to "help" it along, so that it will fill with water.

Then, try starting it.  It works for me EVERY TIME!  And I even had my good friend, who owns his own appliance repair service come out to my house to check it out...and he is the one who told me about the 10-year rule-of-thumb on dishwashers, and then advised me about the "priming the pump" hint.  =)

I hope it works for you!  =)

OH!  I almost forgot!...You need to use LIQUID detergent...not powder!  The powder clumps up and does not dissolve all the way, and can clog your float, too.

And, also, is your little door to load the detergent into on the same side of the washer as your float?  Ours is too, they usually are...and it is a totally dumb place to position the little "door"!

BECAUSE...often, the detergent just runs right down the dishwasher door--when it is closed up--and the detergent will pool right into the float, and clog it immediately.

So, I use the liquid detergent, and squirt it in a long line, just directly on the inside of my dishwasher door...on the half of the door OPPOSITE from where the float is.  It does not matter that the detergent is not in it's little compartments...believe me...your dishes will get PLENTY CLEAN!  (I just always use the "pots and pans" setting, to make sure they always come out clean. ;)

    Try it, okay?  =)

  2. Mine wouldn't fill once and it was the inlet strainer. Some of the time ,it's probably a valve though.

  3. call someone at like menards or the place you bought it

  4. Could be something electronic, such as a bad switch or control. You probably need to call an appliance repairman. before calling, you could remove the front kickplate and disconnect the waterline and see if water is getting to the unit. Could be a blocked line.

  5. sounds like the motor is froze up ,which is a common thing if it sets up for awhile, try pouring a cup of water into the bottom of the d/w,and close the door, then take the lock handle and switch it back and forth several times,if the off/on switch is in the timer, just turn it around several times, this may free the motor up and start running,if not you may have to call a repair person, don't let them tell you ,you need anyhting, other than freeing up the pump motor.

  6. the fill valve has a solenoid on it that is probably bad
