Dislexia, how do they test for dislexia in teens?

I was wondering, how they test for disslexia in teens. what kinda pictures they show or puzzles they do?? does anyone know?

As you will see, there is no SINGLE test that can be used for evaluating dyslexia.

Every public school has access to a School Psychologist. Dyslexia is a term typically used for a diagnosis from the DSM IV which is book for coding and submission to Insurance Companies. The school system will use a batter of assessments including an I.Q test, achievement test, psychomotor screening, classroom observations, work samples, review of records and a social/medical history as part of the assessment. Sometimes Adaptive assessments and behavior checklists are included in the psychological evaluation, upon the discretion of the School Psychologist.

In the school system, formal diagnosis of dyslexia are not typically rendered. Instead, the education department for your state will have it's own categorization. For example, instead of using the term dyslexia, the school system is more likely to say something like: according to results Johnny meets certification requirements as Learning Disabled for Reading Comprhension, according to state rules and regulations

You can go to a private Psychologist. Call your insurance company and see who is on their provider list. Make sure you specify you want to be evaluated for a possible learning disability. Medical Doctors are not trained to assess for learning disabilites so don't bother with them. Make sure the person you choose for the evaluation is licensed by the board of health as a licensed practitioner.
