Dislocated elbow: Houston Texans' DE J.J. Watt out until regular season – NFL News
Houston Texans’ have confirmed their defensive end J.J. Watt is out of the side for rest of the training camp and preseason with an injury to elbow, which the player suffered during a practice session on Thursday.
Both the player and coach Gary Kubiak said that the DE has dislocated his elbow while being stuck into a tangle of players at the end of a running play.
The player tweeted to officially tell his fans that he is injured but vowed he will be back in time for the Texans’ season-opening game against the Miami Dolphins on September 09.
He wrote:
"Adversity makes you stronger. I will be on the field against the Dolphins. Better than ever."
Later, Gary also confirmed that the player looks fine and all tests reports are encouraging. The coach believes the player will be back in the squad at the start of the season.
Further, he said there is a possibility that the player returns in time for the preseason campaign and might be able to get a couple of games towards the concluding period of the schedule.
The injury nevertheless is a disappointing development for the team as they are trying to move away from the legacy of the former defensive star Mario Williams, who has joined the Buffalo Bills off the free agency earlier this year.
Since then Watt has been promoted to be an essential part of the team’s defensive scheme and any serious injury can prove to be a setback to their immediate future prospects.
So far, it remains out of the possibility, as even the latest injury scare is less likely to affect his return to action for any longer period, as confirmed by the coach and player himself.
Watt is returning into his second pro year with the Texans. He was selected off the 2011 National Football League (NFL) draft at 11th position overall. His rookie appearance record consists of five and a half sacks.
This year he is likely to be given more opportunity and projected to assume leading role at the place of the Texans’ former leader Williams.
