Dislocated shoulder?

MY BOYFRIEND HURT HIS SHOULDER ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO PLAYING STREET FOOTBALL. HE SAID IT FELT LIKE IT POPPED OUT AND SOMEONE POPPED IT BACK IN FOR HIM. HE'S NEVER SEEN A DOCTOR FOR IT, HE JUST ICED IT WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED.

ABOUT EVERY TWO WEEKS OR SO HE SAYS HIS SHOULDER IS "OUT" AND ASKS ME TO POP IT BACK IN. I CAN ACTUALLY SEE TWO SMALL BUMPS STICKING OUT CLOSE TO HIS SHOULDER BLADE. I HOLD BOTH ARMS BEHIND HIS BACK (LIKE HE'S GETTING ARRESTED) AND SLOWLY PUSH HIM ARMS UP UNTIL HE SAYS TO STOP. IF I'M NOT THERE, HE HANGS FROM SOMETHING (LIKE A PULLUP BAR) AND USUALLY THAT HELPS TOO. HE SAYS IT HELPS HIS SHOULDER GO BACK "IN".

I'M WONDERING IF THIS REALLY IS A DISLOCATED SHOULDER OR SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS. IT HAPPENS OFTEN, SOMETIMES FROM THE SMALLEST MOVEMENT. HISJOB IS VERY PHYSICAL SO I GUESS HE'S BEEN AVOIDING THE DOCTORS BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE TOLD THAT HE CAN'T WORK FOR A WHILE.

IF YOU'VE EVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THIS I'D LIKE TO HEAR. IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS OF MAKING IT BETTER, I'D LIKE TO HEAR THAT TOO.

  1. It goes without saying, he needs to see an orthopedic physician for a proper examination and treatment plan.
