Dismissal of Ozzie Guillen comes at expense of Miami Marlins’ image - MLB Update
By sacking Ozzie Guillen, Miami Marlins have earned themselves the status of being the kind of club that hires and fires their officials frequently.
The turnover rate of the Marlins can make the potential officials of the club fear that they will meet the same fate in case they are unable to perform well.
Similarly it will be hard for the Marlins now to find a manager who is willing to join them. In the face of the fact that his poor performance may result into an immediate ouster from the club, he will be apprehensive.
The Marlins’ owner, Jeffrey Loria is known for his volatile attitude when it comes to making changes on the roster and in the coaching staff.
In the last few years, he has not shown faith in the managers that he acquired. As soon as he found his team struggling under them, he got rid of them.
Last year Guillen was inducted in the team after Edwin Rodriguez resigned.
Many hold the view that the inability to give the managers an opportunity to stay in the club for a few years is the reason why they failed.
They have not produced results because every manager they obtain is not provided with enough time to understand the players.
The fact Guillen has not lasted for more than one year further gives a reason to believe that they are unstable as an organisation. It shows that the Marlins are directionless and without a long term plan. Instead of building up a strong team for the future,
they appear to be shortsighted in the pursuit of their objectives.
Currently, the Marlins will be evaluating various options to name a successor of Guillen.
In their official announcement of the dismissal of Guillen, they stated that they want to hire such a manager who can introduce winning culture in the team.
They cited Guillen’s failure at changing mindset of the players as the reason why they could not register a better win-loss record in the season.
It will be hoped that the Marlins’ management learns from the bad experiences of the past and brings about stability in the club.
