Question:

Dismissing a 4 point speeding ticket in Wisconsin?

Got a ticket today for going 61 in a 35, the officer wrote 19 over on the ticker (so 54 in a 35) and it's gonna cost me 4 points and $109. (And I'm from Wisconsin)

My question is, is it possible to have this ticket dismissed via asking if I can take a defensive driving school at my court date? Or is 4 points too much? I have never had anything more then a verbal warning so this is my first ticket, and I am 18 years old.

Also, anyone have an idea how much my Insurance will go up if I don't get it removed? And just to clarify, I do not expect to avoid paying the fine, just the points, and my insurance going up.

Thanks

  1. Wisconsin does not dismiss tickets if you complete a defensive driving program, you will still be liable for the fine, and the conviction will still be on your record. They do offer defensive driving, but only for "point rescheduling". This means they will credit your record three points if you complete the program.

That means the conviction will still be entered, and available to your insurance company.
