  1. Two words: Copyright laws.

The Little Mermaid is still on Broadway, so its illegal for non-professional (schools, community theatres, etc) groups to perform at all. Even if it isn't for profit.

And its a stage adaptation of the movie, so I doubt you would be able to do it.

If you really want to do a Disney musical, do Beauty and the Beast.

  2. The only stage adaptation of the movie is the one currently on Broadway and you cannot currently get the rights to perform it.  If you adapt the movie yourselves you will be in breach of copyright and Disney will sue you. You could adapt the original story - assuming it's out of copyright - but you cannot use any Disney material.  Pmpknkin is mistaken, in that when you rightfully buy music at a music store, that does not

automatically give you the right to perform it in public - and again, if you perform their songs in public without permission, Disney will sue you.  As someone else suggested, go for Beauty and the Beast if you want to do a Disney show.

EDIT: "We don't want to do answer #3. We want to do THE LITTLE MERMAID"

If you want to do something that isn't available, you can't do it!  What you want is not the same as what Disney wants, they are a huge multi-national corporation who will sue you if you perform their work without permission.  There was a case where they sued the parents of a child who had died for putting their image of Winnie the Pooh on the child's gravestone - so you will not get away with putting on The Little Mermaid.  Give up that idea and find something else.

  3. Well if you talking about the one on broadway you can forget about it because the cost is too great. as for the movie one, i would look on amazon.com and sheetmusicplus.com. well to put it into production  you also  need to remember to have a good cast and will stagecrew

    good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. i see no harm in putting on a show with music that you've rightfully purchased at a local music store and sining the songs on stage.  i also see no harm what so ever in wearing a simple costume.

i suggest a medley of different disney songs etc.  without any dialogue.

"IDEA:  try to show case the movies as they relate to significant turning points in the Disney empire.  (first computer animated feature film, first film in color, first complete CGI film, best original score, last film that Walt influenced, etc.)  or simply by showing them in order of their release."

  5. Disney has not released any version of The Little Mermaid as of now.  MTI and Disney have several shows that are available based on the films.  Kid versions of The Aristocats, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty, and 101 Dalmations.  Jr versions of Mulan, Alice in Wonderland, and Aladdin, and full versions of Aida, High School Musical, and Beauty and the Beast.  I would expect The Lion King, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, and The Little Mermaid to eventually be released through MTI, but as of now, they are not.
