Im going on the Disney Magic in august around the meditteranean. Im going for 10 days. It should be magnificent. I am going with my freind and this is also my very first cruise. What are some thing I should know? Like sea sickness, time differences, all the info about that? I just dont want to be ill prepared. Also with the formal nights, does it have to be tux's? Can you have just a blazer tie and slacks? Does it have to be a dark color? I was thinking navy blue blazer white shirt red tie and nice kahki slacks? Is that ok? if not i can get a black suit. Any help is appreciated, thanks so much.

  1. Formal nights for cruises can be tuxes but not neccesary, a suit is perfectly acceptable. Khakis are not formal. If you can borrow a suit please do. Black, navy, dark gray or even brown will work. You'll have a great time. And thank you for being considerate of the dress code. Plus all the ladies will think you rock. Also remember if you have assigned seating times please be on time as the waiters do not start serving until everyone gets there. If there are too many people trying to get into the bathroom to clean up for dinner you can take turns showering in the fitness center showers. They're also alot bigger. Bon Voyage!!!

  2. My wife and I did a Disney Cruise for our Honeymoon about 2 years ago.  It was a lot of fun.  Depending on when you are going, sea sickness should not be much of a problem.  You will not even feel the boat moving, unless you catch the edge of a hurricane (like we did).  The first night was a bit rocky for my wife and she did begin to feel ill until someone offered her some fresh ginger.  Ginger seems to be the best trick for fighting off sea sickness.

In regards to the formal outfit, a coat and tie will work just fine.  A tux is defiantly not required.  I wore a black blazer myself, and never got a second look.

One recommendation that I have for you is to check your on board account every day.  I can't tell you how many people left the ship broke and angry, because they did not realize how much they were spending on the ship (especially on alcohol).  My wife and I set a daily budget and checked the account every day to make sure we were not spending to much.

Hope this helps, and have a wonderful time!

  3. We just returned from Disney's Mediterranean cruise on Magic (out first cruise as well).  It is a great trip!  From the moment we landed in Barcelona, Disney picked us up and made sure our hotel stay went smoothly (we checked into the cruise at the hotel at a special desk Disney set up).  Disney arranged our baggage transfer from our Hotel room straight to the ship as well as transported us to the ship.  Everything went smoothly.

For the entire trip, the weather was nice and temperate.  The information Disney provides every day makes sure you're aware of everything you need to know from shore excursions, activities, shows, seminars, movies in three theaters, as well as 24 hours TV channels on what to plan at each port of call (each port of call had a dedicated channel that played 24 hours a day).

There was only one real formal night (although they said there were 2 nights), and you weren't required to really dress up unless you wanted to.  While some people rented a tux, most just work jackets ties, but I also saw regularly dressed individuals (shorts and polo shirts).  As another option, try the buffet early in the evening...later it's get's either crowded or the a the meats are little drier.  Only Palo required a jacket but  you need a reservation (which we got but we made the reservations the first night we arrived).

We were in cabin 6576 so being mid-ship was great and we were about 7 or 8 cabins next from the Laundry room (came in handy as a place to exchange cruise tips and information from other more experienced travelers).  Great feature of Disney cruises is that there's like 2 bathrooms per cabin as laid out is almost like a mini-suite on most other ships (that's what the more experienced cruisers told us and checking out other cruise ship website layouts confirmed).

The shore excursions were very well organized.  Also, Disney had about 70 counselors organizing activities for kids from age 3 to teens to adults.   I actually feel I need to do another cruise just to see everything I missed.

Disney will also provide you toward the last 2 days of the cruise instructions on tipping, and also getting the European VAT refunds for major gifts you purchased on board the ship as well as instructions on how to get VAT refunds from your shore excusions (check out channel 14).

You'll have a great time as Disney made everything as easy as possible for you to enjoy the trip.

    Good Luck and Have fun.
