Question:

Disney Cruises Question?

Hi everyone! I'm planning on a getaway this coming summer (2007). I want to bring my 7 year old daughter to a Disney Cruise. What is the difference between Disney Magic and Disney Wonder? What is better? And which cruise do I take to stop at a private island? Or is there one like that? Bahamas, Carribean, or Meditteraen?

And one last question, do either ship go to Disney World in Florida?

I've never been on a Cruise and this would be my first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to spend $5000 for all 3 of us.

  1. Theme.

Disney Magic has an Ariel theme, whereas the Wonder is more geared to Belle.

You can opt for a package where you spend some time at WDW and go on the ocean trip.

Hit the website for all the info (www.disneycruises.com)

  2. Actually, the guy above is mistaken. The Disney Wonder goes on the shorter trips to the Bahamas (3-Night Cruise, 4-Night Cruise, 7-Night Land & Sea Vacation) while the Disney Magic goes on the longer cruises to the Caribbean (7-Night Eastern Cruise, 7-Night Western Cruise, and Special Cruises.) Also, starting in 2007, the Disney Magic will be offering cruises in the Mediterranean. ALL, cruises depart from Port Canaveral, Florida (except the future Mediterranean cruises.) None of them depart from Fort Lauderdale. You will need to find some way to get there, whether you fly to Orlando International Airport and take a Disney Cruise shuttle or drive all the way to Port. Neither is necessarily better. It all depends on where you'd like to cruise. In fact, the two ships are nearly identical except some of the places onboard have different names. For exmaple, both cruise ships have a restaurant called the Animator's Palate. Both cruise ships have a restaurant on the third floor - on the Disney Wonder it's called Triton's and it's themed to the Little Mermaid, but on the Disney Magic it's called Lumier's and it's themed to Beauty & the Beast. Both cruise ships spend a day at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay (except the Disney Magic obviously will not stop at Castaway Cay during the cruises in the Mediterranean. I would suggest going on on of the cruises to the Caribbean, unless you wanted to do the Land & Sea Vacation aboard the Disney Wonder. Cruises to the Bahamas are so typical and boring these days. Almost all cruises stop at Nassau, so it'll be very crowded there. And Nassau's definitely not the nicest, cleanest of places. Cruises to the Mediterranean are very expensive, and you'd have to fly to Europe to board the ship, and then fly back. Only the Disney Wonder has the option of the 7-Night Land & Sea Vacation. Disney Cruises are the best and the Disney Cruise Line is in the top three in the world.

(Order a FREE Disney Cruise Line Vacation Planning DVD - I did, it's great!)

(A lot of helpful information about planning, what to expect, and what to do onboard, etc., and there are reports from other people who've been aboard a Disney Cruise - that way you can see what they have to say about their experiences.)

I think I've covered each part of your question, and in order.

Hope I could help! Have fun!

  3. Go to www.love.allabouthoneymoons.com they can plan any type of trip not just honeymoons. If you tell them what you like and your budget they will plan the perfect trip for you.Best of all the service is free b/c the fee is paid by the Disney.

  4. The Magic goes for shorter 3-4 night cruises to the Bahamas and leaves from Port Canaveral (on the coast of Florida).  The ships do not sail from Disney b/c Disney itself is not on the coast.  They are both very nice ships.  You can either do just the cruise or do part land (Magic Kindom in Orlando) and they'll bus you to the ship afterward.

The Wonder does the longer 7 night cruises to the Carribean.  B/c it's longer, they have more activities like "sleepovers" with the characters for kids.  Those cruises leave from southern florida/miami/ft lauderdale.  I believe both cruises stop at a private island of Disney's (Castaway Cay) for a day.

You will love Disney cruising.  They are the only cruise line with heated fresh water pools on the ship.  The shows are awesome and your daughter will love seeing the characters.  The money is well worth it.  It just depends on whether you want to do the long cruise or split the short cruise with the land package.  If you've never been to Disney World Orlando, I'd recommend the split package.  But I will say the cruise is much more relaxing for the adults....no lines, all the food is included, and no catching shuttle buses.
