Question:

Disney World Resorts- Caribbean Beach Resort or Port Orleans?

In looking for moderate resorts in Disney World, we narrowed it down to The Caribbean Beach Resort or Port Orleans (either French Quarter or Riverside. Not sure of which one though. Anyone know which is better?). We are not positive of which one is better. (The kids are teens by the way if that helps)

We are partially leaning towards the Caribbean Beach Resort but still aren't sure. Any info or opinions anyone has would be great! It'd be even more helpful if you included opinions about the food and bus service at the two.

Thanks!

  1. i am a teen and have stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort and personally i loved it...it is great for teens and has great pools and the food is ok it has one nice restaurant and then a food court which is good for the kids...but don't even worry about the food there because it is likely you will eat a lot at the parks and their different restaurants...the bus service was really good it got us to and from the park in a timely fashion....have fun and trust me and choose the Caribbean Beach Resort...

  2. i liked port orleans french quarter and i am 15. you can take a boat ride over to riverside and eat at their food court, as well as yours, and go fishing. a couple years ago i stayed at Caribbean beach resort and the walk to the front took forever, food was c**p, room was messy, and bad guest services. my grandma booked it for us since we had othe rthings we had to do at that time and were going down a day earlier than she cause she had to do something, they wouldnt let us check in our room without her there. she even said that we would be there first. and when she called we put her on the phone and they wouldnt let us check in. so she had to drive an hour and a half to let us in and then drive back up to what ever she was doing. they wouldnt even let us swim when i asked my mom if my sis andi could go, the guy said it was for those who were checked in already. so we spent forever sitting. it took like 6 hours since we got there to let us check in

  3. The bus service is the best at PO French Quarter, and the worst at CB.  PO Riverside has many stops; it shares most buses, but not all, with POFQ.  For unshared buses, POFQ has only one stop.  CB has a million bus stops--it was Disney's first moderate, and they overcomplicated it.

CB's main pool is closed for renovations right now.  The pool at POR is very cool--2nd best at WDW after Yacht Club/Beach club pool.  However it is shaded, and the pool at POFQ is more sunny. If sun tans are more important than decor, POFQ wins. (POR and POFQ guests can use each others pools--but its a 10-15 minute walk between them)

POFQ is the only moderate without a sit-down restaurant. It does have a food court.  POR is my second favorite food court at WDW (after Coronado Springs) because of the barbecue you can get there.

All in, of your choices, I'd vote for POFQ.  Better buses, better--for most teens--pool.  CB would be last, POR in the middle, and a much better choice than CB until CB's pool reopens.

However, to me, the best moderate is Coronado Springs.  Because it's the only moderate with a convenetion business, it has many more services than the other moderates.

...and see this for what you get at all the moderates at WDW, and how they are different from the values and the deluxes: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-...

Hope this helps and have a great trip!! Dave

  4. I've stayed at both (including both sides of PO).  While I love certain things about PO, we usually choose to stay at CB because they seem to have a better bus system. Both sides of PO share one bus system, while CB has its own.  Someone else wrote that CB has a complicated bus system--but it doesn't. There are about 6 stops throughout the resort, so there isn't that mass attack to get on the bus.  The buses enter the resort on either side and hit every stop in order.  The order can change depending on which side of the resort they enter from.

It depends on what is most important to you.

I think the rooms have a better theme at PO (both sides), but I like the bathroom vanity at CB better.  I also feel that the room seems larger at CB, even though it's probably the same.

If you do choose PO, stay on the French Quarter side because the buses usually pick up there first.

You can see lots of pictures of both resorts at this website: www.allears.net

Good Luck Deciding! Either choice is a good one; you can't go wrong.

  5. I don't know much about Port Orleans, but I stayed at the Caribbean Beach and its pretty cool. The only bad part was that there are a lot of buildings spread out. I stayed in building 51 and it was like a 4-8 minute walk to the food court. Also the main pool is closed now to put in another slide so I would check if it's open on the dates you will be there. My fav part of the CB was the boat rentals. If your teens are 5ft or taller then can drive a 2 person boat. But if you would like more boating room go to the Wilderness Lodge to rent boats because there's more space there. There's a new ride at Holywood studio's that I suggest you try, Toy Story Mania. But the line is really long so you have to get there for early opening, and get right in line to get fastpasses and then get in the standby line. Then you can ride it 2 times for like a 10 min wait each time. Oh and there is Pizza and Chicken and a mini grocery store with fruit and doughnuts at the CB food court, so you will find something for everyone.
