Question:

Disney songs for auditions?

i am thinking about audition pieces for musical theatre college and found some really good disney songs which i am able to sing well.

however i dont know whether people tend to only sing songs from stage shows at musical theatre auditions. in the info to the college it doesn't specify that the songs have to be from musicals, it just says that they have to be a solo lasting no more than 3 mins.

i really like 'Journey to the past' from anastasia and songs like 'colours of the wind' and 'reflection' but i really have no idea whether they will be suitable or not.

please give me your advice and feel free to make any song suggestions. i am a mezzo-soprano

thanks for your help :-)

  1. yes sing something from a musicle something with lots of ranges in it to really show off ur voice

music of the night from phantom of the opera is a good 1 and it has lots of emotion in it too so it will show off ur acting skills 2

  2. I think "Candle on the Water" is a beautiful and underused Disney song that should be in your range.  It is from Pete's Dragon.  I do not think that singing something from a Disney movie will be a problem, they really want to get a feel for your voice, range, and personality.

P.S. Anastasia, though lovely, isn't a Disney movie.  It is 20th Century Fox.  They still owned the rights to the story from the 1950s Ingrid Bergman version.  That is why you never see her with the Disney Princesses.  She isn't a Disney character.  Just a little trivia for you.:)

  3. Disney songs are great. Really try to capture the character in your performance. Here's more songs to think of:

My Favorite Things- The Sound of Music

    Home- The Wiz

I'd Give My Life For You- Miss Saigon

Now That I've Seen Her- Miss Saigon

    Nowadays- Chicago

    Back To Before- Ragtime

  4. Anastasia is not Disney, but it's a good song.

Anyways, yes, you should try something from a musical.

Similar songs to those you've picked might be:

I'm not that girl (if you can go low) - Wicked

Anastasia might work. Also try "Once Upon A Dedember"

I don't know how to love him - Jesus Christ Superstar.

  5. For auditions for a college, I would highly recommend a song from a musical. Try a song from some  of the disney movies that made it to broadway if you wish to use a disney song.

Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, etc. Anastasia songs also happen to be favorites of mine for auditions. I use "Once Upon a December." Good luck, and I hope that helps.

  6. Omg! You have the best voice part for "On My Own" from Les Miserable. This is a musical and it is so good, I love this song. I auditioned with this song and got called back for a lead, however I didn't get it because I can't dance but w/e. Anyways, this song is easy to learn and you'll fall in love with it. Listen to it on youtube and once you think you have it type in piano and you should get the piano part for it.

But I understand wanting to use Disney songs and they work fine and perfectly. So what I recommend is Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid (Part of your world). However, I think Reflections or any of the songs you chose would be fine but make sure you have background music or piano part, unless you have to do it w/o music.

Sorry I'm so confusing if i am. By the way, I love that song from Anastasia. It's my fav!
