Disneyland face vs atmosphere characters?

I know face characters are strictly those who show their faces, but can atmosphere characters include face characters? I mean, if Disneyland has a casting call for atmosphere characters, will it strictly be costumed, masked characters such as Mickey, Minnie, etc.?

Atmosphere characters are NOT friends of Mickey, Goofy, Donald, etc nor are they their helpers. Atmosphere characters show their faces and are, for example, Queenie in New Orleans Square, the Mayor of Main Street, the Pirates on Tom Sawyers Island, etc.

From what I gather, Atmosphere characters are not actual named characters. I believe they work the rides and one or two are assigned to each face/fur character to 'help out' if guests get out of hand. Basically, every nameless person you see in costume is an atmosphere character.

i am not sure about disneyland but at disney world, armosphere characters play roles having to do with the area of the park, not a disney character.  for example there is the major or Main Street. you get the idea.
