As a University student walks to her dorm on the sidewalks, she has three successive displacement vectors (i.e. one right after the other):

ΔrA = (17 m) î

ΔrB = (12 m) ĵ

ΔrC = (13 m) î + (15 m) ĵ

What is the x-component of the total displacement of the student?_________m

What is the y-component of the total displacement of the student? _________m

What is the magnitude of the total displacement of the student? _________m

What is the angle between the displacement vector (i.e. total displacement) and the horizontal axis? _______°

  1. 1_  17i +13i =30m

    2_ 12j+15j=27m

    3_ second root of (30.30 + 27.27) = 40.3m

    4_ tan(x)=27/30 x=arctan(27/30)

  2. i=17+13= 30 m

    j=12+15= 27 m

    magnitude:

    sqr(30^2+27^2) = 40.36 m

    angle with +x-axis

    atn(27/30)*180/3.14159 = @ 41.99 degrees
