Disposablepleasure and In Lingerie ready to represent Todd Pletcher in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes
Veteran trainer Todd Pletcher is eyeing the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on 18 May, 2012, at Pimlico Race Course; as he has gone on to send Disposablepleasure and In Lingerie to represent him in the 1 1/8 mile test that offers a purse of $300,000.
The Black-Eyed Susan Stakes has reeled in 9, 3-year-old fillies, and Pletcher will be looking for progressions for his 3-year-old Giacomo filly, Disposablepleasure, who hasn’t come out as the filly she was supposed to be after a good juvenile season.
Both these fillies were pointed at Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs, but Pletcher opted for the Pimlico race instead, and might’ve been right at least in Disposablepleasure’s inclusion from the race, because the filly’s graph has taken a nose dive in her sophomore season.
Bred in Kentucky by Doug Branham, Disposablepleasure broke her maiden at third asking last year, but she made up for the previous losses, when she won the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at about 1 1/8 miles.
Despite stumbling at the gate, Disposablepleasure nosed out Wildcat’s Smile to win at Aqueduct racetrack along with Ramon Dominguez in the silks.
However, this year she is not the same filly, and according to her trainer, the way she has trained in the winter, Disposablepleasure should have been able to win the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes, where she finished fourth, and the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks where she finished third.
“To be honest with you, we’ve been a little bit disappointed in both of her races this year,” said Pletcher. “She’s a filly that showed in the Demoiselle that she can compete at this level. She trained all winter like a filly that’s able to win these types of races, yet her fourth and her third were not up to the standards of her training.”
The 3-year-old Empire Maker filly, In Lingerie on the other hand isn’t that experienced, but whatever has been thrown the light raced filly’s way, she has shown that she is ready for such a test.
Gary Barber and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners owned In Lingerie is exiting a victory in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks over a mile at Turfway Park’s synthetic surface.
