Question:

Disputing a hotel charge for a credit card?

A nation-wide hotel got sneaky and charged me for an extra day when they said they wouldn't... I checked in before the official 11:00 AM check-in time, and they said there wouldn't be charging me for that day.

Once I got my credit card bill, I discovered they charged me an extra day.

Do I dispute this with my credit card company, or with the hotel office, or with the headquarters?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

  1. I would call the credit card company first to see what your rights are and dispute the charge.  Then call the hotel and speak to management.  I think I would also notify HQ you may not be the only one this hotel has done this too. Get everyones name that you spoke to and keep a log with date and time.  Good Luck!

  2. how you dispute depends on your credit card company..  but you can dispute almost anything.  some will let you file a dispute online, but you will almost always have to eventually fill out paperwork which acts as an affidavit though one hotel stay will never go to court.  they will ask you if you have tried to work it out with the hotel first, but visa or mastercard are finally responsible for giving your money back
