Dissection question??

so, you know how frogs and little fish and stuff like that are routinely dissected in almost every class requiring dissection? i was just wondering, where do the frogs come from? since they get dissected so often, i would imagine companies kill them for the sole purpose of being dissected. is this right?

  1. Yes there are companies that raise them for just that purpose that is why all the frogs are of the same type and same size.  Also the frog corpses are injected with dyes to help you distinguish what are veins and what are arteries, etc...

  2. they were raised... and i think that some are actually still alive while being dissectedd... not sure if that's true or not though

  3. Yes, they are raised in farms for the sole purpose of being dissected. I believe the one exception to this is fetal pigs which are taken from slaughter houses. They are then killed using a gas and shipped out to schools.

There is no way any animal you dissect could be alive as they've been kept for months in a formaldehyde solution. No animal could survive that.
