  1. yes walking but not next door, so to speak, they are on opposite ends of the old city, actually directly across from each other, about a 3/4 to an hour walk.

If you have stuff to carry take a bus.

Wonderful city to be in though, if you can do walk it, you will get a great idea of the atmosphere of the old city.

  2. From Santa Maria Novella Station to Ponte Vecchio is around 40 min walking, but you can do best and by the way see other sites in your go. In front the train station you found Piazza della Stazione take Via dei Avelli then in Piazza Santa Maria Novella (behind the church of the same name) take Via dei Panzani in one point this street change the name to Via Cerretani and take you directly to the Batistero and the Duomo. When you get there take Via della Calzaiuoli (this street is betwen Batistero and Duomo) go straight and you be at Piazza della Signora ( here you found a replica of the "David" in ht e place was in one time the original and the Palazzo Vecchio) in there take Via Por Santa Maria and you found the Ponte Vecchio in the front.

  3. It is walking distance, but if you are carrying luggage, I'd rather take a bus

  4. It is walking distance, but it will probably take you close to an hour.  Just jump on a bus, it will get you there a lot quicker.  If you have luggage or are wearing uncomfortable shoes it will take a lot longer.

  5. From the  train station, you can walk to Ponte Vecchio. It is a short walk from the station
