Question:

Distance - how can I judge it by myself?

Whenever i am in a car, or someone is describing directions, I am hopeless at judging how many KM, or miles or metres they're talking about. How can i get a better sense of distance and space? A lot of people have the intuition (men maybe more than women, I don't know), but you know - I'd like to know how to judge how far, say, if I were kidnapped, in a car, and could see out the window - or at least could say something is X amount of distance away...

  1. you should be aware of how far you are driving when you know where you are going.   and keep the time and distance relationship in your mind.   also if you know how fast you are going you can estimate how far you have gone.   at 60 mph you go one mile per minute    etc.    i am sad that you would say men are better than women at this.   i would hope you will rethink this. some people are just better at this than others,  i have traveled a lot and that has helped me.

please try to avoid being kidnapped    because if you are traveling to a second location, your chances are slim.  so kick hard and scream loudly.

  2. you should know the location of the place in the city, then you may have to visit before

if you kidnapped! try to watch the car speed (avarage),and record the time of travel in your mind

if your eyes are balnk off! then have no choice you may take in to account the speed limit of traffic for the city..

you should practice to guess the time you have spend.

for example while you are free in home remove your hand watch and spend some time then guess some figure for the duration then check with your watch, you can get the almost figure one day..

    good luck..

  3. With practice you can learn to judge your speed of travel if you can see things passing you bye.  Also, roughly, by the sound of the wheels on the road.  On the expressway there are signs saying exit in 1 mile or 1/2 mile.  Look ahead to see what the exit looks like at these distances.  With practice you will remember how far these distances look and you can then judge the distance of other things by comparing how far they look with how far that exit seemed at say 1/2 mile.
