[Distance learning] Is this teacher responsible or not. What is your opinion?

I'm taking on-line course right now, and have a problem.

I get a lot of questions, and I send emails to the teacher because he lives far away. However, he replies emails usually two days later. While that two days, I usually have another questions, and send more emails.

So he usually get 3 or 4 different emails from me in one week, and he always replies only the last one. So I re-sent emails that I didn't get an answer for.

But I mean...it's rediculous for me. They are getting paid for teaching, and they are not responsible. I know this teacher is actually teahing different course at another college, and helping this on-line course. But still, he is getting paid for it. I just can't believe that he is no replying.

Are there teacher like this? Common? Do students just need to push teachers to make them more responsible? Or am I being too serious? Should I be more easy for this?

  1. At the online university where I applied for a teaching position, they tell you when you apply that you must have office hours 4 days a week. Students can send you questions before and during the office hours. The questions are supposed to be answered BEFORE the office hour time is up.  For a regular university, the professors are also required to keep a regular office schedule so that students will know how to reach them. If this is a university program, I would make a complaint to the dean or other administration.

  2. I do not think this is really anyone's responsibility, simply a negative factor of online classes and evidence of how they hinder the learning experience.

  3. I have done courses online ...thru webct. I can ask questions of prof and other students...

problem is you may benefit from a forum instead of emails that are piling up..maybe getting bulked mail categorized..ignored.. or deleted or who knows.

Discuss matter with prof.. if not resolved..

Send a complaint to your dean about the matter..

if not resolved look for a style of learning that fits w/ your needs.
