The Scottish International penned a four-year deal with the Merseyside club on the 4th of July, after parting ways with Glasgow http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 following their expulsion from the SPL. His five-year stay at the Ibrox Stadium saw him score 33 goals in 140
competitive appearances.
The striker is expected to bolster the Toffees attacking front, and will pair up with his former Rangers team-mate, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nikica-Jelavic-c27906 upfront. According to some reports, the Goodison Park outfit are also close to acquiring permanent services of the Tottenham
Hotspur’s attacking midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 during the summer.
Distin, a veteran of 114 games for Everton, welcomed his manager’s decision of admitting the 25-year old in the squad. He revealed that he had attended a couple of training sessions with the attacker, and expressed his admiration for his exceptional talent.
While talking to reporters, he said: “He will be a good addition to the squad. We have only got a small squad so any player of his quality will add a lot to the squad and can only be good.”
As was the case on countless other occasions, the Toffees got their 2011/12 campaign off to a shaky start. However, they finished the season on a high, going on a run of nine matches without defeat, which allowed them to finish seventh in the league table.
Distin went into raptures about the impact that the strikers made during the closing stages of the term, and believed that they were also one of the best defensive units in the Premier League.
He also insisted that Everton had the potential to challenge for a Champions League berth, but refused to reveal any specific targets ahead of the coming season.
“We have not set any targets as yet. If you ask me what I would like to happen then I would like to win the league and be playing Champions League football… we will be trying our hardest to get off to a good start and finish as high up the league as possible
at the end of the season.”
