http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sylvain-Distin-c34430 has revealed his longing to represent the Toffees for as long as he can, and believed that the club possessed a lot of quality players in the squad.
The French International was signed by Everton in August 2009 for a 5 million pounds transfer fee on a three year contract. Since then, he has made 114 appearances for the Toffees and scored 4 goals during this period.
The 34-year old underwent a remarkable 2011/12 campaign in which he represented the Toffees in 27 league matches. He subsequently won the Player’s Player of the season accolade earlier in the month.
Even though his contract is set to expire by the end of summer, Distin unearthed that he plans on staying at Goodison Park for a long time and has developed a good rapport with his current team-mates.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I want to carry on as long as I can. I don't need a boost. No matter what happens, you can be sure I'll be there the next day.”
The former Manchester City player was also delighted upon being voted as the best Everton player by his colleagues for the last term. He mentioned that he has been around with some of his team-mates for a very long period, and they knew everything about
each other including the positives and negatives of each other’s game. Hence, he indicated that receiving an acknowledgement from his peers made the accolade even more special to him.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman lauded the efforts of the rest of his team-mates during the Everton’s successful season, and believed that the club possessed a couple of world class players in the squad.
He continued, “Guys like Baines, Fellaini, Heitinga, Jagielka, Howard – there's a lot of quality in this squad.”
However, the consistent Distin experienced a terrible moment last season in the semi-final of the FA Cup against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, in which he inadvertently played a back-pass to Luis Suarez, who scored the equalizing goal for the Reds.
Everton went on to lose the game 2-1.
When asked to comment on the incident, Distin responded by saying, “That split-second in the semi-final represents nothing compared with the whole season but is still something that I keep in the back of my mind. That takes more importance than the whole
season to me, personally.”
The defender indicated that he had put the disappointment of his costly error in the semi-final behind him, and was happy to bounce back strongly later on in the season.
