Everton defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sylvain-Distin-c34430, has admitted that he does not like being on the bench and vowed to give it his best to re-establish his regular playing status in the team.
However, the French International revealed that sitting on the sidelines helped him re-evaluate his game, and made him realize that he has still got a lot of football hunger in him. The centre back is 34 years of age and one of the most experienced members
in the Toffees squad.
After claiming starting spot in the first four matches of the ongoing campaign, Distin apparently lost favour of his manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Heitinga-c18862.
Nonetheless, the Everton stalwart quickly staked his claim in the team, and has started in the last three matches for the Merseyside club.
With his place now subjected to competition, the Frenchman confessed he hated sitting on the bench.
The defender insisted that he was not willing to play second fiddle in the Toffees backline, and wants to continue making starts on regular basis. However, he viewed the current competition in the squad as a healthy sign for the team, and claimed that he
was up for the challenge.
“I did hate it but I did try to take the positives out of it and it made me realise that I'm not ready to stop at all,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“I'm not ready to be on the bench at all and that's a good thing. I'm working hard every day not to be on the bench, but we have four great centre-backs.”
Distin, who has capped 128 appearances for the Goodison Park team and notched up 5 goals, is into the final year of his contract with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043.
Although the aging player will have to prove his worth to his manager in order to get a new deal, he insisted that he was determined to play in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and refused to ply his trade elsewhere.
“The reason I am in England is to play against the best strikers and I would rather have those kind of challenges every week,” he added.
