  1. Well, you should read your Organic book but here it is...

    1)  Me - CH2 - (C=O) - O - H  :this molecule is an acid

    and

    Me - CH2  - (C=O) - O - (C=O) - CH2 - Me  :while this is an ester

    Check Wikipedia

    2)  Methan'ol' means it is an alcoh'ol' therefore (O-H)

Where as Methan'al' means it is an 'al'dehyde   (-C=O)-H

  2. CH3CH2CO2H is propanoic acid

(CH3CH2CO2)2O is propanoic anhydride (2 units of propanoic acid with 1 H2O removed - hence the anhydride)

    phenyl methanol is an alcohol

    Ph- CH2-OH

    phenyl methanal is an aldehyde

    ......O

    ......||

    Ph- C-H

You want to re-phrase that additional comment of yours? Maybe just maybe if you do and if you apologize, I'll consider helping you out.

Look at your original question.. you wrote...

    distinguish bet. following

    CH3CH2COOH and (CH3CH2CO)2O

PHENYL METHNOL Pi-CH2OH AND PHENAL METHANAL Pi-CHO....

with methnol and phenal spelled incorrectly, and Pi instead of Ph...

Where exactly did you say "please provide a reaction that I can use to distinguish between the following pairs of chemicals?"  Oh.. that's right.. you didn't... And because I didn't know what you were talking about in your cryptic misspelled question, you have the nerve to call me an idiot?  Say to me " u think u r so smart".  Especially when I'm answering your question to help you out?  Not to help me out.  Who exactly do you think you are anyway?

Now apologize if you want my help.
