  1. Orbit is the Earth revolving around the Sun in an elliptical shape not circular.  Winters happen because the Earth is slightly further from the sun and (say we are on the Northern Hemisphere) when the north pole faces away from the sun.  Summer happens when the pole faces toward the Sun and the Earth is closer to the Sun.  This is why Antarctica is so much colder because the poles are opposite to the seasons.  Summer for us in the northern hemisphere it is winter for them and summer for the southern hemisphere it is too far from the sun to get the heat like we would.

did I explain myself well enough for you to understand? I try to put it simply.

  2. Orbit is the motion of a body around another one.It can be circular or elliptical(oval shape). So,ellipse is a particular type of orbit.

As the earth's axis is tilted,if the north pole is pointed towards the sun (in its elliptical orbit around the sun),Northen hemisphere gets its summer time and if the north pole is away from the sun and is not pointing towards the sun,the Northern hemisphere gets its winter time.
