  1. I'm assuming that the main difference is one survived and the other didn't. For instance: A woman is raped and murdered. She is a rape victim. She is also a murder victim. Another woman is raped but manages to escape her attacker. She's a rape victim, but she's also a rape survivor.


    That's just my take on it. I think the term "rape survivor" actually came about as a way of taking the "victim" label (which invokes images of helplessness) off of women who have endured a sexual attack. It's more empowering to be known as a "survivor" than it is to be known as a "victim".
