  1. First combine the 4 and 5 inside the parentheses: -4 (2p + 9)

Then multiply each number inside by the number outside, -4: -8p - 36

  2. distributive can be described like giving

    -4(4+2p+5)

    -4x4+-4x2p+-4x5

    -16-8p-20

    -36-8p

or you add the 4 and 5

    -4(2p+9)

then you multiply the -4 to both the 2p and 9 and you get your answer

  3. Simplifying

    -4(4 + 2p + 5)

    Reorder the terms:

    -4(4 + 5 + 2p)

    Combine like terms: 4 + 5 = 9

    -4(9 + 2p)

    (9 * -4 + 2p * -4)

    ANSWER--->(-36 + -8p)

  4. You multiply everything inside the brackets by -4.

    -4(4 + 2p + 5)

    = -16 - 8p - 20

    = -16 - 20 - 8p

    = -36 - 8p

  5. (-4x4)+(-4x2p)+(-4x5)

    -16-8p-20

    -8p-36

  6. Take everything inside the parenthesis and multiply it by the -4 on the outside. All separately!

    Result: (-16 - 8P - 20)

  7. -16 -8p -20

  8. mutiply -4 to each

    -4(4)=-16

    -4(2p)=-8p

    -4(5)=-20

    -16-8p-20

    combine like  (-16-20)-8p=-36-8p
